Bankcard USA: Merchant Services

Services:

  • Architectural Design
  • Interior Design
  • Procurement

Understanding the complexities of an ever-changing and challenging industry, Bankcard constructed a merchant service that cuts through confusion and provides a single, trusted source for complete, innovative solutions. We designed a multifaceted environment that allows their culture to thrive, invites their employees to think outside of the box and work happy.

"Kingdom created more than a design, they created an experience! Kingdom’s work is nothing short of fantastic! We found them to be overly accommodating to navigate pitfalls that came up. As a result, our new space is raved by all that come to visit and is a breath of fresh air for all who work here."
- Scott Hardy, Vice President at Bankcard USA

Inspired by wooden cubes thrown into a cardboard shoebox, the environment encourages curiosity and nurtures discovery. Its playful, seemingly random arrangement of geometry invites inhabitants to wander into distinct, unconventional passageways and areas marked by diverging and converging angular shadows.

Utilizing simple, industrial materials like perforated metal against plywood and exposing the concrete floors, structural walls and ceilings, we were able to design a space for the Bankcard team that is dynamic and compelling ad infinitum.

Kingdom Industry Design Studio

We hand built a 7,000 square foot studio for ourselves that functions as well as it looks. As much as our studio is a piece of art, it is also a working space for makers. Suits and sawdust.

The central philosophy is that resourcefulness and sophistication can coexist. We designed our studio to elevate raw materials, as a reminder that true value comes from thoughtful consideration, not excessive cost. From the elevated shipping containers to green velour walls, every material is an experience — designed to instigate curiosity and spark ideas.

Defined and undefined. Refined and unrefined.

Designed Anticipation

Throughout the space are luxe, elongated green velour corridors. Extending beyond the place a hallway might normally end, they appear to be photoshopped into a space, even while standing in front of them physically.

Textured walls prompt touch as you walk through them, and create a grand walkway and a strong sense of anticipation for what’s at the end of each tunnel.

Balance & Evolution

Long spans of clean, white walls, polished concrete and cork floors balance a space that celebrates raw materials. Skylights throughout the space allow light to travel through the space, constantly evolving our creative environment.

Procore: A Software Development Company

Services:

  • Architectural Design
  • Procurement

Procore created a construction management platform that forges clear pathways through a chaotic industry. In an effort to help build company culture around their beliefs, we created an intentionally fragmented environment that was designed to help employees become comfortable amidst chaos, teaching them to naturally see clearly within it. Balancing the needs of a rapidly expanding company with the approachability of its leadership and laid-back beach lifestyle, we created a space that is both high tech and approachably tactile.

Seeing through obstacles

Clear pathways cut through an otherwise fragmented layout. Panes of glass, gaps in walls and semi‑transparent wall surfaces invite inhabitants to see through obstacles and into other possibilities, creating spaces that challenge occupants to throw off the norm and think outside the box. Faceted plywood clouds float above working tables, providing creative inspiration and a fresh lighting solution.

Ones of a kind

Custom designed plywood couches are placed throughout the space, elevating raw materials to a high end finish. Brendan Ravenhill lamps illuminate spaces, adding extra class to the environment.

Clover: Website Development Company

Services:

  • Architectural Design
  • Construction
  • Procurement

Because Clover’s main output is the construction of flexible websites that suit a multitude of individuals, we designed every square inch to inspire them to pull away from trends. To spark their creativity, we provided a variety of spaces for changing work modes; each area with its own personality, without sacrificing consistency.

Palette Cleanser

Tension and release are the building blocks of an engaging narrative. In order to spark creativity at Clover, we designed detailed areas that are with rich color, texture and warm light...and balanced them out with other areas that are pure; refreshing, 100% bright white.

Secret Passages

Every kid dreams of secret rooms and hidden passages. In this case, we created and concealed a library with no doors, situated between the two executive offices that provided a place for leadership to convene without publicity.

The only way in or out is through the bookcase.

Elliston: Home in the Hills

Services:

  • Architectural Design
  • Construction
  • Procurement

Families grow in the spaces that they occupy. They are deep, meaningful and fun. The Ellistons are such a family and their home needed to reflect who they are. We came alongside them to imagine a space that was fresh yet mature, timeless and inspiring (for the parents and the kids). Most of all, a place to laugh and relax.

Floating Stairs

Stair stringers suspend each solid mahogany tread in mid-air with penetrating powder-coated risers.

Hand-scraped Wood Beams

We added huge wood beams to restore a sense of foundational structure to the home. Custom 1"x12" natural slate tiles maximize the volume of the room, balancing the thickness of the beams.

SPAR: Smart Desk

Services:

  • Design
  • Manufacturing
  • Software/Hardware Development

At Kingdom we see the future not as a slick glass and metal world, but as a place where humans interact with natural materials; where everything has been made ‘smart’. Driven by this foresight, we have begun to experiment with examples and works that explore technology infused into objects of comfort and practicality. We call them Spår; the name, coming from the Swedish language, meaning "a faint trace or track".

Custom-made Electronics

Our goal was to hide technology so that you didn't feel like it was there, but rather, enjoyed its benefits. Discreet LED’s and various programmable buttons, both analog and capacitive sensing, are inset into the surface along with a modified Wacom tablet. With SPAR, you draw directly on the wood, not a tablet.

Borrego: El Zorro Desert Resort & Spa

Services:

  • Architectural Design
  • Procurement

In the arid expanse of the Anza Borrego Valley, there lies a diamond in the desert. We were hired to think outside of the box and help Joanna Perlman at JoFusion create a desert resort oasis that did justice to the existing resort’s great history. Originally established as the Desert Lodge in 1937, we were honored to help bring the resort back to life. From the sketch book to final installation in only 8 weeks.

Tetra: Invisible Storage

Services:

  • Architectural Design
  • Construction

The Tetra storage room stands at almost 50′ long, has nearly 100 unique sheet metal facets, a padded and upholstered high-gloss black vinyl surface, and a 1/4″ thick steel doorway that weighs in at over 1500 pounds. Each panel is meticulously fitted with a clear lacquered plywood dividing framework.

Glitch dots@2x

It's What?

When people see Tetra for the first time in person, there's usually a perplexed look on their face. There is no structural component supporting the wall but the 1/16″ thick facets themselves. Paired with some beautiful wool chairs from Ligne Roset and a Kingdom original: The OK Table. No two facets on the Tetra Wall are the same.

Watanabe: Urban Residence

Services:

  • Architectural Design
  • Construction
  • Procurement

When a client says "We love clean living," we drop a knee and fire off an enthusiastic fist pump. We designed a simple and fun interior for the Watanabe family that transformed their 80’s built tract home without moving walls or making major structural changes. The family entertains often and the environment spurs conversation as well as entices the eye. There are alot of tactile experiences throughout and their eclectic sense of style is supported by the interior surroundings.
